About Simply Accounts: Our Accountant Company

Mike has worked in accounting since 2005, initially working for large companies before moving into practice accountancy. Realising how much this drove him, he founded Simply Accounts in 2014, using his experience to provide great value all-inclusive or tailor-made solutions to clients.

As well as being a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT), Mike is a fellow licenced member in practice of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), and is authorised to provide all tiers (1 to 4) of their services. Now in the process of becoming a member of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) to showcase his ability to lead, he undertakes regular continuing professional development in taxation in order to keep on top of the latest changes in legislation.

Mike’s passion is using his vast knowledge and experience to service SMEs effectively and efficiently, and he takes pride in having worked alongside some of his clients for over 10 years.

When he gets a moment away from work, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife and travelling. He has two huge Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs, and some of his more niche interests are practicing his faith, self-defence, and bodybuilding. He is active in the Handbridge, Chester community too, being a trustee and treasurer of the Handbridge Community Association.

Sandy worked in education for 15 years, where her leadership roles ranged from Assistant Head to Special Needs Coordinator. On making the move to accountancy in 2021, she quickly realised that many of the skills she already had – such as meeting deadlines, communication, and understanding organisation and governance – were transferable to her new career.

Sandy was inspired to get into accountancy by her husband Mike. Upon watching him work and build strong relationships with clients, she found she wanted to support the business and develop her own skills in the industry, reviving an early interest she had in business and finance.

As well as taking satisfaction from helping clients and keeping them happy and fully supported, Sandy believes one of the best things about the role is developing her own skills and understanding of accounting and payroll. Her biggest attributes are motivation, tenacity, organisation and a keen eye for detail.

Away from work, Sandy loves travelling, reading, art and strategic thinking.

Ben started his career in accountancy as a trainee in the late 2010s, and knew straight away that it was his calling. Since then, he has specialised in working in practice and has become a fully qualified bookkeeper.

His passion is working closely with colleague and clients, understanding their varying needs and finding effective solutions for them. Importantly for an accountant, he’s a stickler for timekeeping and punctuality, and prides himself on adapting to change.

Whether training new colleagues or assisting clients with queries, Ben is dedicated to playing an important part in the success of others, and helping Simply Accounts provide the best service possible.

In his spare time, Ben is an avid gamer who has even been known to build his own gaming PC, and has recently taken up jiu-jitsu.

Scott has a background in finance, having spent eight years working in retail banking, and has brought his keen eye for detail and appetite to learn into the world of accountancy.

He began to think this might be the career for him while working on ways to improve his financial knowledge to buy his first house. This sparked an interest into concepts of financial planning and analysis of income/expenditure, which tied in well with his job at the time and gave him the grounding he needed to pursue a brand new career.

Always happy to interact with customers, and really valuing his friendship with his colleagues, Scott has a natural ability to adapt to meet new challenges, organise large workloads and adhere to important deadlines.

Aside from accountancy, Scott’s interests include Warhammer and other board games. He’s also a huge fan of Queen, and is able to play along to the entire Live at Wembley concert on his guitar. A little-known fact about him is that he has the same rare blood type as the Royal Family (O-)!
