Simply Accounts was established in 2014 in Handbridge, Chester by Mike Wilson, whose family has deep roots in the area and who continues to support the community as a volunteering trustee and treasurer of the Handbridge Community Association.

We specialise in providing clear, all-inclusive accountancy and bookkeeping solutions for small and medium-sized businesses. Our proactive, hands-on team works alongside you to simplify your financial processes so you can focus on running and growing your business.

In 2018, we strengthened our offering by acquiring a respected local accountancy firm, expanding our client base across a wide range of industries and business sizes. Today, we support clients nationwide from our Chester office, using a modern digital approach that allows us to work efficiently with businesses wherever they are based.

Mike Wilson (Founder)

Chief Executive Officer

Mike founded Simply Accounts in 2014 after building experience across both corporate and practice accounting. Qualified to Level 7 and holding memberships with AFA, ATT, and FMAAT, Mike is passionate about helping SMEs access proactive, reliable, and approachable accounting, tax, and business support.

Outside of work, he enjoys the gym, travelling with his wife, anything with an engine, walking his two Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and supporting the local community.

Sandy Wilson

Chief Operations Officer

Sandy joined Simply Accounts in 2021 after 15 years in education, where she held leadership roles from Assistant Head to Special Needs Coordinator.

Inspired by Mike, she transitioned into accountancy to support clients and develop her skills in business and finance. Known for her organisation, tenacity, and attention to detail, Sandy enjoys helping clients feel fully supported. Outside work, she loves travelling, reading, art, and strategic thinking.

Matt Vague

Chief Growth Officer

Matt joined Simply Accounts to bring over two decades of experience across hospitality, tech, and operations.

He focuses on business development, client success, and scaling operations, combining strategic insight with a people-first approach.

Outside work, Matt is likely found at the gym and enjoys travel, seeking sunsets and sandy beaches, music, and fine dining.

Tom Richardson

Client Manager

Tom brings nearly 12 years’ experience in accountancy practice, starting his career as an apprentice in Chester while completing his AAT qualification. He has since progressed to Client Manager and is currently part-qualified with ACCA, working towards full qualification.

He is passionate about helping clients add real value to their businesses - supporting growth, delivering proactive tax planning, and clear, practical advice. Approachable and reliable, Tom builds strong relationships and is committed to delivering a consistently high level of service.

Outside of work, he enjoys playing football and golf.

Debi Bird

Client Manager

Debi has built a successful career in accountancy, progressing from office junior to accounts senior through dedication, hard work, and continuous learning. She is currently pursuing her ATT qualification - a challenge she finds demanding and rewarding.

Outside work, Debi is passionate about travel, social connections, and creativity, from crafting charms to exploring new cultures. Recently, she also qualified as a beauty and holistic therapist, embodying her motto: “You are never too old to try out whatever it is that you may wish to do.”

Ben Young

Client Manager

Ben began his accountancy career as a trainee in the late 2010s and quickly discovered his passion for the field. Specialising in practice, he is now a fully qualified bookkeeper and holds an AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting.

Ben enjoys working closely with colleagues and clients, finding effective solutions, and supporting the success of others. Outside work, he is an avid gamer and enjoys staying active at the gym.

Louise Halpin

Accounts Assistant

Louise is an experienced accounting and administration professional, Xero certified and skilled in bookkeeping, credit control, and office management.

After studying AAT Accounting at night school and taking a career break to raise her three children, she has become a valued member of the Simply Accounts team, known for her resilience, determination, and dedication to supporting colleagues and clients alike.
